It’s beginning to feel a lot like summer! If you’ve lived in Arkansas long enough, you know summers here are… something else. It gets really hot and really humid REALLY fast, but how does that affect our time in the gym? Should we just give up and let the Arkansas heat ruin our progress? Nay I say! Let’s take a look at a few ways you can keep up with your goals while avoiding being miserable.
If you’ve been taking aerial or pole classes for a bit, you’ve probably heard the term “active flexibility” before, but you may be confused as to what it means. Both passive stretching and active stretching are techniques that can improve flexibility and range of motion. The main difference between the two is the level of control exerted by the person doing the stretching.
In aerial and in pole, cross training is paramount to muscle development. This simply means not relying on pole or aerial alone for all your training. There are so many awesome options for cross training such as barre classes, cross-fit, cardio-based training, etc… but one of our favorites has to be handstands! Handstands are a fun and challenging exercise that has numerous benefits for both your physical and mental health. Whether you're an experienced aerialist or just starting out, practicing handstands can help you develop strength, balance, posture, and confidence.
Open gym is a fantastic resource for aerialists and pole dancers of all levels, because everyone has skills and drills that they can work on. But sometimes, coming into a blank gym without your weekly teacher and fellow classmates can feel…weird. Where do you even start? Let’s talk about some things we can keep in mind so your open gym experience is as fulfilling and amazing as it should be!
On top of the sounds of a booming bass and skin sliding down the pole, it’s hard to ignore the sounds of laughter and joy that resound from the pole studio when Britney Bass is in charge! Britney is one of the many beloved pole teachers at Arkansas Pole Arts, and has recently taken on a new position as the director of the pole program. For Britney, this is all a dream come true, and something she never would have considered when she first started pole.
Nutrition is a dense subject. It’s a lot of fancy words and numbers with what feels like very little practical explanation. Sometimes, I wish I just had my own personal nutritionist who told me what and what not to eat throughout the day so I didn’t have to think about it. The truth is, there is no one-true diet for aerialists and pole dancers. You can be well fueled and still be gluten free, vegan, keto based, etc… So instead of telling you what to eat, let’s talk about some simple food actions you can take to help your aerial or pole journey.
If you are looking for the perfect gift for your loved one who does aerials and/or pole, look no further! We have compiled a list of gifts that will bring them joy this season.
